
Ernest Miller
2008-06-13Ernest F. “Ernie” Miller, 63, of Crossman Street, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2008, at 12:19 a.m. in WCA Hospital.
An area resident most of his life, he was born April 21, 1945, in Phoenix, N.Y., a son of Lucille Bishop Miller and the late Frederick Mill-er.
Ernie was a 1963 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 with three tours of duty in Vietnam, re-ceiving the Bronze Star for meritorious service. While home on leave, Ernie also served as grand marshal of Jamestown’s Memorial Day Parade.
In earlier years, he had worked in the offices of the former Proto Tool Company. In 1985, he became em-ployed by Howlett Cadillac, which later became the Shults Auto Group, from where he retired in 2005. Following retirement, he volunteered at the Saint Su-san Center and Chautauqua County Humane Society.
He attended New Creation Assembly of God and was a member of the Rotary and Maplehurst and Jackson Valley country clubs. Ernie was also a board member and served as ice coordina-tor of the Chautauqua Coun-ty Youth Hockey Associa-tion for six years.
An ardent sports fan, he enjoyed golf, football and especially hockey, particu-larly when his son Jonathon was playing. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan and was a proud West Vir-ginia University Moun-taineer parent.
Most importantly, Ernie will be remembered as a wonderful family man; he was a loving husband, fa-ther, grandfather and son.
Surviving are his wife, Myrna Cruz Miller, whom he married October 2, 1987; four children: Heather (Tye) Flurie of Mayville, Jason (Jennifer) Marsh of Middle-town, N.Y., Patricia (Dennis) Dixon of Mayville, and Jonathon Miller, at home and a student at West Vir-ginia University; six grandchildren: Noah and Evan Flurie, Grace and Lauren Marsh, Daniel Dix-on, and Cameron Miller; his mother, Lucille Miller of Jamestown; three brothers: Kenneth (Diana) Miller, David (Diane) Miller and Paul (Toni) Miller, all of Jamestown; and a sister, Marjorie (William) Pietre-face of Oneonta, N.Y.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a great aunt, Bernice “Aunt Bea” Sydman.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Creation Assembly of God. The Rev. Don Fisher will of-ficiate. Burial will be in Soldier’s Circle of Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
