W. Brook Rhinehart, 85, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 3 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018, in his home.



Brook was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Ripley, N.Y., to Waldron and Thelma Smith Rhinehart.



He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from Jan. 23, 1953, to Jan. 21, 1955, while stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground during the Korean War.



He graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1958 before becoming an industrial arts teacher at the Jamestown Senior High School for 33 years. During his teaching career, he taught many courses including blue print reading, hand drafting and computer aided drafting, as well as being a driver education teacher for many years.



After retirement, he designed and constructed the Cross Creek and Ridge Railroad HO Scale model train railroad. He enjoyed hosting and meeting with members of the Conewango Switch Tenders, where they had operating sessions and ran trains.



He is a past president of the Jamestown Teachers Association, a member of the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the New York State United Teachers, the Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion, the Camp Street United Methodist Church, where he served as the chairman of the Administration Council, the Independent Model Railroaders, the Conewango Switch Tenders and the Wednesday morning coffee group of Jamestown Retired Teachers.



He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Quilliam Rhinehart; three children: a son, David (Darcy) Rhinehart of Frewsburg, N.Y. and two daughters: Denise (James) Worden of Cape Coral, Fla., and Kim (John) O’Connor of Warren, Pa.; four grandchildren: Ashley (Dennis) Buizert of Cape Coral, Fla., Allison Rhinehart of Glendale, Ariz., Matthew Rhinehart of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Tyler Worden of Cape Coral Fla.; and a sister, Carrie Lee Gregory of Madison, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Brown, of Asheville, N.C.



The family would like to thank Dr. Adnan Munir and the team from Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care for their help during the past three months. Their assistance made it possible for Brook to be cared for at home.



Friends and family will be received from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018, in the Lind Funeral Home. Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
