Virgil S. Martin, 78, of Panama passed away Monday (May 8, 2023) in his home.

He was born on June 17, 1944 in Oil City, PA the son of the late Howard L. Martin and Lucille Huffman Irwin.

He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963 and was later employed by Dahlstrom Mfr. Co. for over 30 years and retired from Panama Central School.

Virgil was a member of the Jamestown Moose and General Assembly Lodges. In earlier years he loved swimming and participating in flag football. He also enjoyed Elvis, bowling and playing Black Jack.

Surviving are his beloved wife Linda Martin; a son: Richard (Jane) Martin of Alabama; a step son: Scott (Kay) Haskell of South Dakota; two daughters: Tammy (Dave) Bellardo and Cindy (Michael) O’Connor; a half sister: Gloria (George) Bloom; and several grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a son: Timothy Martin; a brother: Howard R. Martin; and his step mother: Betty Martin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 1 p.m. in the Jamestown Community Chapel on 35 Camp St. Rev. Douglas Penhollow officiating. Inurnment will be at Panama Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
